Are you ever hard on yourself for having a variety of emotions? One moment you’re happy, the next you’re sad. You might think “why am I this way?” The answer is that you are human. Emotional fluctuation is natural and quite normal.

Our emotions come in all shapes and sizes. Sometimes they are positive, while other times they are negative. Like a roller coaster moving up and down, or fast and slow, they will inevitably change and fluctuate over time – every time influencing how we feel. As this emotional rollercoaster changes direction, our levels of well-being are often “along for the ride” right with it. Our emotions can lead us to feel overwhelmed, depressed, anxious, stressed, or frustrated day-to-day or even hour-to-hour. The good news is that we have the ability to manage and guide our response to emotional experiences. This ability is called emotional regulation.
